Every year the Hot Wheels mainline works its way through a run of lettered cases, and 2026 has now reached its last one. Case Q is the fifteenth and final case of the year, and it's already showing up at retail alongside the tail end of Case P. Here's what's in it, and what to grab before shelves reset for next year.

Why "Q"? A Quick Refresher on the Case System

Hot Wheels runs its yearly mainline through a sequence of lettered cases — A, B, C and so on — each one a fresh assortment of 1:64 cars shipped to stores in waves throughout the year. The sequence conventionally skips the letters I and O to avoid confusion with the numbers 1 and 0, so a full year runs from A to Q: fifteen cases in total. What's in Case Q

Case Q carries two brand-new castings: the Custom Vanster and the Porsche 908-3. The rest of the case leans heavily on recolors — eight recolors of castings that already debuted earlier in 2026, which is typical for a closing case, since Mattel tends to use the final assortment to clear out remaining colorways rather than introduce a wave of new tooling.

The headline chase for Case Q is the '67 Pontiac Firebird 400, confirmed as the case's Super Treasure Hunt — the last Super Treasure Hunt of the 2026 mainline year. If you've been filling out your 2026 Super Treasure Hunt list, this is the final one to track down.

Don't Skip Case P

If Case Q hasn't fully hit your local stores yet, Case P is still very much in play — and worth checking first. As the second-to-last case of the year, specialist trackers have logged around 30 distinct models and color variations in the Case P mix, giving you a wider net to work with while it's still on pegs. Tips for Hunting the Last Cases of the Year

• Go early in the shipment cycle — the final cases of the year tend to sell through faster than earlier ones, since collectors know it's their last shot at that year's castings and chases.
• Check multiple store formats — big-box retailers, warehouse clubs and smaller convenience-format stores often get Case P and Q at different times, so don't assume one store's empty peg means the case hasn't shipped yet.
• Watch for holiday reset overlap — stores often start blending in holiday-exclusive sets and multi-packs around this time of year, which can make regular mainline cases harder to spot on a crowded shelf.
• Log what you find as you find it — with two cases, a Super Treasure Hunt and dozens of recolors in play at once, it's easy to lose track of what you already own versus what's still on the list.
