Storage vs. Display: Know the Difference First

Before buying anything, decide what each car is for. These are two different jobs, and mixing them up is the #1 reason collections get damaged or disorganized:

• Storage — cars kept safe, protected from light and dust, easy to sort and find. Best for the bulk of your collection, especially carded/blister-packed cars you don't plan to open.
• Display — a curated shelf of favorites, Treasure Hunts, and grails you want to actually see every day. Small on purpose — display space is always limited.

Most experienced collectors run both: a large storage system for the bulk of the garage, and a small rotating display case for current favorites.

Protecting Your Collection

Diecast paint and plastic parts are more fragile than they look. A few habits prevent most of the damage collectors regret later:

• Keep cars out of direct sunlight — UV exposure fades Spectraflame and metallic paint noticeably within months, especially reds and purples.
• Watch humidity — damp storage areas (garages, basements) can cause tire and window-plastic degradation over years. A closet or climate-controlled room is safer than an actual garage, ironically.
• Handle loose cars by the base, not the body — fingerprints and oils dull paint over time, especially on gloss finishes.
• Don't stack loose cars directly on top of each other — wheels and small parts scratch the car underneath.

Small Space? Here's What Actually Works

Not everyone has a spare room for a "man cave" wall display. If you're working with a shelf, a closet, or a single drawer:

• Sort by series or year in labeled bins — makes finding a specific car in seconds instead of digging through everything.
